Here are the most important items for your Disaster Supply Kit. Stock up prior to the start of hurricane season and replenish as necessary.

- Two weeks supply of prescription medications
- Seven day supply of non-perishable/special dietary foods
- Drinking water at 1 gallon per person per day - seven day supply
- Flashlights and replacement batteries (at least 5 sets recommended) for each member of the family
- Portable radio and replacement batteries (7 sets recommended)
- First aid kit
- Mosquito repellent and citronella candles
- ABC type fire extinguisher
- Instant tire sealer
- Whistle and distress flag
- Two coolers - one for food the other to use to get ice
- Plastic tarp and screening
- Water purification kit
- Non-electric can opener
- Cleaning supplies, including mop, bucket, towels and disinfectant
- Camera and film
- Extra batteries
- Bucket with tight fitting lid and kitty litter for use as an emergency toilet
- Plastic trash bags
- Toliet paper, paper towels and moist towelettes or wipes
- Infant necessities
If you evacuate you should also take:
- Pillows, blankets or sleeping bags and air matress
- Extra clothing, shoes, eyeglasses, etc.
- Folding chairs, lawn chairs or cots
- Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.)
- Playing cards or other small games, books, toys, etc. for children
- Important papers and irreplaceable keepsakes
Precious commodities before and after a storm:
- Cash (with no power, banks may be closedm and checks and credit cards may not be accepted, and ATMs may be down)
- Charcoal, wodden matches, and grill (do not use a gas grill indoors)
- Ice, ice, and more ice
- A corder phone that does not require electricity
