Are You Prepared for Hurricane Season?

There is no natural disaster as deadly as a hurricane, and for those living in areas prone to these monster storms, the potential nightmare often turns into reality.

If you live in an area hit by a hurricane in the past couple of years, then you know what it can be like. Days, or even weeks, without power. Even if you have a gas generator, your supply of fuel runs out quickly. Most gas stations do not have power to pump gas, so your gas generator becomes useless. And in a day or two you are in the same boat as your neighbors - no power.

Hurricane

NORTH STAR ENERGY SERVICES, INC., has developed innovative solar powered generators that are portable and have sufficient power to compete with the gas generators on the market. These systems can be taken with you if you have to evacuate in front of an oncoming hurricane. And when you return home, you have your own power supply with you, undamaged and ready to bring those essential appliances on line, give you light, run power tools, and bring some comfort to help you through the chaos that follows a storm.

SP Series Solar Generator

Contact us today for more information on environmentally friendly, quiet, and easy to use solar generators that produce perfectly clean power. We can also show you the benefits of a solar generator versus a noisy, not envionrmentally friendly gas generator that produces relatively 'dirty power'.

Planning for Hurricanes

Plan, prepare, and protect before a storm is on the way! Use our Hurricane Guide to help you get organized. It contains checklists of useful information to help you plan before a storm arrives.

Top 10 Things to Do Before a Storm
  1. Make a family disaster plan. If you need help formulating a plan, contact your local emergency management office, local chapter of the American Red Cross, or search on line for plan templates.
  2. Refer to your local hurricane evacuation map. Know your evacuation zone and plan your routes.
  3. Decide where you would go if ordered to evacuate.
  4. Check your Disaster Supply Kit and obtain items that need to be replenished or replaced.
  5. Make plans and purchase materials, such as storm shutters and plywood, to protect your home before a storm.
  6. Keep your home in good repair. Repair or replace any loose roofing or siding. Keep trees trimmed and gutters clean.
  7. Purchase a battery-powered weather alert radio. Keep a non-electric land line phone on hand in case electrical power is out and phone lines are still operating. Remember, cordless phones do not work when the power is out.
  8. Inventory your property and possessions on paper and make a video survey of your property. Store with your insurance policy and other important papers. Also, send a copy of your inventory to a friend or relative.
  9. Make sure your street address number is clearly marked on your home, not just on your mailbox.
  10. Review your insurance policies with your agent.
