SolarGenerations Program Expands to Include Wind & Hydro |

A one megawatt solar system will be installed on the roof of the new Goyder Pavilion, the centerpiece of the Adelaide Showgrounds upgrade in Adelaide, Australia, South Australian Premier Mike Rann has announced. According to Rann the AU $8 million [US $6.83 million] project would be the largest rooftop solar photovoltaic installation in Australia, five times the size of the next largest installation at Melbourne's Victoria Markets.

Now, a research team at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has found a way to use that heat-soaking property as a source of renewable energy. Through asphalt, the researchers are developing a solar collector that could turn roads and parking lots into ubiquitous -- and inexpensive -- sources of electricity and hot water.

Rocky Hill, Conn., August 25, 2008 – The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) today announced that the town of Avon, Conn., has joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Program by committing to purchase at least 20% of its electricity for municipal facilities from clean, renewable energy sources by the year 2010. Avon officials signed a resolution declaring the town's commitment, joining 82 other Connecticut municipalities that have made a commitment to a cleaner environment and greater energy independence.
