Alternative energy company redesigns trailer-based SP series of solar generators. Systems range from 1,500 to 5,500 watts.

VALRICO, FL -- Feb 10, 2007 -- North Star Energy Services, based in Valrico, Florida, has recently completed redesigning a trailer-based series of portable solar generators. The systems range from the SP1500T, with 1,500 watts continuous power, to the SP500T-SW, with 5,500 watts of continuous true sine wave power.
"We are currently running tests and collecting data on a 3,600 watt system. The results are very encouraging, thus far," states Anthony Williams, president of the company. "On an average day in Florida in the winter we are generating between 40 and 50 amp-hours of power," he says. This should almost triple in the summer with longer daylight hours and more intense sunlight available.
The system being tested utilizes two Sharp NT185-U1 24 volt solar panels wired in parallel, and to date the highest observed wattage has been 252 watts. Along with four Trojan absorbed glass matt (AGM) batteries and components from Xantrex, the system has been able to provide power for up to 3 days when little sunlight has been available.
The company is taking orders for the systems well in advance of the 2007 hurricane season. "Portable solar systems are an excellent alternative to gas-powered generators in hurricane prone areas of the United States," continues Mr. Williams. Wholesale gasoline distribution and retail availability can be seriously disrupted for days or weeks, even by a category one hurricane. This severely limits the useful life of a gas powered generator to a day or two at most. A generator powered by the sun provides a homeowner environmentally friendly, quiet, and easy to use power almost indefinitely.
